Kia ora everyone
I hope everyone had an awesome break, and you are all as excited as I am to be back at school!
Even though it is our first day back, we are straight in to learning! Today we started learning about descriptive writing - which is our writing focus this term.
We are learning to write descriptions in both English and Te Reo Maori. Check out this piece of shared writing we did today! All tamariki actively discussed Popcorn and came up with the following ideas:

During Matariki Te Pouahi ran a Hangi fundraiser! The preparations were done the night before by whanau members from throughout Te Pouahi, and all of the Tamariki were at school to witness the Hangi being brought up at lunch time. Our Tamariki really enjoyed eating their Hangi!!!

Check out this Video Whaea Helen made of our awesome Matariki rotations we did. It was a great way for our tamariki to integrate with the other children in Pohutukawa and to learn different aspects of Ngā Mahi ā Rēhia.

Check out our tamariki starting their new tuhituhi mahorahora. We have been watching short clips on YouTube and writing about how thaws clips make us feel. This writing is generally in English but next term we will be trying to write predominantly in ate Reo Maori during this activity. The main aim is to be writing freely for up to 10 minutes about something they are interested in. Whanau are more than welcome to come and join in if they like, or come and watch what the tamariki do during this new writing initiative.
This week the tamariki have been using new apps on the iPads. These apps help them create their very own animations that can move, talk and interact with other animations made in the same app. In the future we will use these to help us with descriptive writing. Check out this awesome creation by Te Piripoho and Alec.
